[Japanese American and Japanese portrait photograph album]Abstract:
Album of studio portraits and snapshots depiciting Japanese Americans and Japanese, most unidentified. Mounted to inside of
front cover is a group portrait taken outside the office of "The Japanese American, a daily newspaper" (location unidentified)
suggesting the album belonged to a staff person at that newspaper. Bulk of the photographs are studio portraits, many depicting
young men in Japanese military uniforms. Snapshots chiefly depict Japanese Americans in San Francisco, Los Angeles and other
California locations. Also includes a few commercial photographic postcards of views in Japan, and one snapshot of the leaning
tower in Pisa, Italy (juxtaposed with a snapshot of two Japanese Americans in military uniforms, perhaps suggesting they were
members of the 441st Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army during World War II?).
